The Field Marshal

Whew…

Was planning to post something the last 2 days, but was unable to log onto WordPress. Guessed as much that access to WordPress was disrupted as with millions of other websites by the damage to the optical fibre cables at Taiwan.

If you are able to read this, and that I have successfully posted this update means I, and more importantly, WordPress, is back online!!! Yippee. Will save my rantings for later.

Hope the internet is back to full normal service too. This episode made me wish I am in US right now…

Here’s a photo of the gift I bought for my wife this Christmas.

Merry X’mas!

I know it is kind of late, but it is never too late to wish one’s friends a “Merry X’mas & a Happy New Year”. Some of my friends had enquired about my prolonged absence from the blogosphere. The more astute ones have guessed correctly. I was glued to the computer monitor as my avatar – Thermoman, hacked and slashed my way through the world of Azeroth. That’s another tale for another time.

I do miss blogging a lot. Miss the easy banter and comments with friends here on the latest developments in Singapore, latest food haunts to be discovered, recipes tried, movies viewed and anything under the sun.

While 2007 is just a whisker away, I have already decided on one of my key resolutions. It is none other than to get my life in order. Life has been great to me. I need not worry about where to get my next meal, money to buy stuff, or family and friends to turn to. It is perhaps that with this abundance of blessings from God, I have neglected what life on this world ought to be. Gone is my drive to reach a goal, or any life’s goal. In its place are distractions which disguise themselves as respectable goals, goals such as getting that next promotion, more bonus, buying that tech toy and accumulating wealth. Don’t get me wrong. These are important things in life. But life is not about these things alone.

Life is about growth. Self-discovery. Mastering one’s talents and gifts which God has bestowed upon us. Hmmmm, God seems to be figuring quite a bit in this post. I feel ashamed that I attribute all my success and blessings to God, and yet not making the effort to even bring myself to church each Sunday. I guess this sums up, in some ways, the current state of affairs in my life.

Harping on lost time is an exercise in futility. It’s time to be awake. There’s a passage in the bible which exhorted all Christians not to be complacent and to always be ready for the coming of Christ. For Christ will come at a time which no one expects. I am like the complacent believer who has erroneously believed that there’s time to enjoy the fruits of this earth and forget the labour for the rewards of the world to come. The time has come for me to awaken to a full enriching life. A life filled with love, wisdom, beauty and, most importantly, God.
